About the project

MAP FinTech is a RegTech platform that gives companies a SaaS solution for analyzing financial transactions and automatically submitting them to regulatory organizations.

At the core of the business is an ETL system that runs the whole process — pulling data from a client's data sources, running it through transformations, and loading it to the regulatory organizations.

Problem

MAP FinTech needed to transform its regulatory reporting platform into a system with high throughput and enough flexibility to grow with its business—without unpredictable costs or instability under load.

Before this transformation, the platform faced significant challenges:

  • No dedicated ETL framework.

    The system lacked an ETL framework built specifically for MAP FinTech's business processes, limiting how efficiently data could move from client sources through to regulatory submission.
  • Limited scalability under load.

    Without a microservices architecture, the most heavily used parts of the system had no clear way to scale independently, making stability under load harder to guarantee.

Our process

We partnered with MAP FinTech to transform its regulatory reporting platform into a system built for high throughput and flexibility, following our proven Product Ladder model.

Product foundation: built a stable, scalable platform

We built a custom ETL framework suited to MAP FinTech's business processes, then moved the platform to a microservices architecture to scale its most heavily used parts and improve stability under load. Finally, we migrated complex business processes to microservices, with mechanisms to run and scale them as needed.

Backend & infrastructure

A custom ETL framework built specifically for MAP FinTech's business processes runs the core flow — pulling data from client data sources, transforming it, and loading it to regulatory organizations. The platform's most heavily used parts were moved to a microservices architecture to scale independently and stay stable under load, and complex business processes were migrated to microservices as well, with mechanisms in place to run and scale them as needed. Built with Spring (Boot, Data, Cloud), Hibernate, and PostgreSQL, with Auth0 for authentication and AWS (S3, Beanstalk) for infrastructure.

Results

MAP FinTech turned its regulatory reporting platform into a system built for high throughput and flexibility, with a stable cost per client and clear scaling points.

The custom ETL framework gave the platform a data pipeline built specifically for its business processes, while the move to microservices—covering both the most heavily used parts of the system and its complex business processes—made it possible to scale independently and stay stable under load. Lower coupling meant the system could change faster when needed. Together, these changes let MAP FinTech onboard more clients while improving both SLAs and the transparency of their processes.

Our approach

Transforming MAP FinTech's platform meant working directly inside the client's team rather than alongside it. Three engineers from Base Blocks joined MAP FinTech's team, providing consultancy and development services across the ETL framework and microservices phases of the project.

Given the platform's need for high throughput and independent scaling, we chose a technology stack built for stability under load and flexibility as the business grows.
